Easy Hot Honey Chicken BLT Sliders (Appetizer Recipe)

Hot Honey Chicken BLT Sliders on a serving board.

It can be challenging to improve a classic, but these hot honey chicken BLT sliders do just that. The traditional chilled sandwich gets an upgrade with sweet and spicy honey, butter-soft Hawaiian rolls, and crispy chicken—a perfect harmony of flavors and textures, ideal for game day snacking, casual get-togethers, and more!

Like any good appetizer, this easy recipe is quick to prepare and can be made in advance if needed. You can enjoy them warm or chilled from the fridge—whichever way you prefer a BLT sandwich! Serve ’em with other finger foods, like wings, nachos, a veggie tray, and (of course) a few sweets on the side, too, for a picture-perfect party spread.

Hot Honey Chicken BLT Slider Ingredients

Wondering how to make the best BLT sandwiches? Here are the ingredients you’ll need. I’ve included a couple of tips and substitution ideas in this section, too.

  • King’s Hawaiian Rolls are your base—their soft, sweet flavor is the perfect complement to the hot, savory, and salty ingredients that follow. Feel free to buy full-sized buns to serve this sandwich recipe as a main dish.
  • You’ll brush the rolls with some melted butter, sprinkle them with garlic powder and parsley, and toast them ’til golden brown for delicious flavor and texture.
  • I use Costco’s Lightly Breaded Chicken Breast Chunks because they’re quick, easy to make in the oven or air fryer, and SO delicious. However, you can use any cooked chicken you prefer—Chick-fil-A bites are another good option if you’re short on time!
  • Hot honey adds a subtle, sweet heat that complements both the fresh and savory ingredients. You can use less if you prefer milder heat, but don’t omit it altogether.
  • It wouldn’t be a BLT without bacon! Use your favorite kind and make sure to cook it ’til it’s very crisp. I bake mine on parchment paper at 400°F for 20-25 minutes.
  • “L” is for lettuce. What’s the best lettuce for a BLT? Choose a crisp varietal, such as butter lettuce, romaine, or iceberg—and, make sure it’s fresh!
  • To-may-to, to-mah-to, however you say it: grab a meaty, juicy beefsteak or heirloom tomato. Choose one that’s locally grown, fresh, and slightly firm for the best flavor.
  • A touch of flaky sea salt on the tomatoes brings out their water, concentrating the flavor even further. Plus, salting them before adding to the sandwich prevents your bun from getting soggy!
  • Freshly cracked black pepper complements both the sweet and salty elements, creating a well-rounded, ultra-flavorful bite.
  • Mayonnaise—creamy, rich, tangy, and the perfect final element to an all-around delicious sandwich. If you don’t like mayo, try aioli. 😉

Optional Add-Ons:

  • Avocado would be a tasty addition, especially if you prefer not to use mayo. I’d also squeeze fresh lemon juice over the avocado to replicate the tangy flavor of mayo.
  • Cheese—a mild or sharp variety, depending on what you like, such as cheddar, Muenster, or even Pepper Jack for a little more spice.
  • Onions (like crispy fried onions or fresh, thinly sliced shallots) add a crisp pop of flavor.
  • Sesame seeds are a tasty and fun addition to the top of the buns, either in place of or alongside the parsley and garlic.

Kitchen Tools To Do the Job

Gather up these standard kitchen items to make your Hot Honey Chicken BLT sliders:

  • Sharp knife and cutting board (to slice the buns and tomatoes)
  • Baking sheet (for toasting the buns and, optionally, cooking the chicken/bacon)
  • Parchment paper (if you choose to bake the bacon in the oven)
  • Heavy frying pan (if you want to make the bacon on the stove instead of the oven)
  • Plate, paper towel, and tongs (for draining the bacon after cooking)
  • Mixing bowl (in which to toss the chicken with the hot honey)
  • Butter knife (to spread the mayo on top of the buns)
  • Hungry bellies (for devouring your delicious sliders, of course!)

Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 20 minutes
Total Time 35 minutes
Servings 24 sliders

Ingredients

  • 24 King's Hawaiian slider buns
  • 4 tbsp butter (melted)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp dried parsley
  • 2 lbs chicken breast bites
  • 1/4-1/2 cup hot honey
  • 1.5 lbs bacon
  • 8-12 oz lettuce
  • 2 large tomatoes
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/3 cup mayo

Instructions

  • Prepare the 2 lbs chicken breast bites according to package directions, if necessary. Toss in a large bowl with the 1/4-1/2 cup hot honey.
  • Cook the 1.5 lbs bacon in a frying pan until crisp, or line a baking sheet with parchment and bake the 1.5 lbs bacon on it at 425 degrees F for about 20-25 minutes, or to your liking. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate and set aside to drain.
  • While the chicken and bacon are cooking, slice the 2 large tomatoes into 8 or 10 slices, and cut each in half to create half-moon shapes. Set aside on a paper towel. Crush the 1/2 tsp sea salt over the tomatoes and let sit to draw out the water.
  • Carefully cut the 24 King's Hawaiian slider buns in half, slicing the top away from the bottom. I find it's easiest to keep the individual buns together rather than tearing them apart at this point. (You'll cut the assembled sandwiches later.)
  • Place the bottom of the buns on a baking sheet with the cut surface facing up. Place the top portion of the buns on the baking sheet with the top (uncut surface) facing up.
  • Mix together the 4 tbsp butter (melted), 1 tsp garlic powder, and 1 tsp dried parsley. Spread over the top of the buns and the inside of the bottom buns. Broil on high until golden, watching carefully—each oven is different; it takes mine about 5 minutes.
  • Place the bottom section of toasted buns on a cutting or serving board. Layer on the hot honey chicken, bacon, tomatoes, and 8-12 oz lettuce. Sprinkle everything with 1/2 tsp black pepper, or a little more, if you'd like.
  • Spread 1/3 cup mayo (more or less to your liking) on the inside of the top set of buns, and place on top of the BLTs. Carefully slice the sandwiches apart along the bun seams and serve warm or chill until ready to enjoy.
